CEDAR KEY, THE QUIET PARADISE IN FLORIDA!

The Unbelievable Adventure on the Gulf Coast!

It is not just another place to visit, it is not a place to bury yourself in crowds of people, it does not cost you an arm and a leg to enjoy yourself, as a matter of fact, this is a treasure nestled in history, beauty and charm.  Known as CEDAR KEY, FLORIDA, located on the Gulf Coast, almost directly across the state from Daytona Beach and straight west from Ocala, Florida.  This paradise is an offering to those who discover it!

After leaving Ocala, Florida you will travel through wooded roads until you explode into the beauty of many Islands dotting the horizon.  This Island is a place of solitude, accented with fantastic accommodations, shops, restaurants, beautiful homes and rustic surroundings.  There is something about Cedar Key that will call you back after your first visit.  It haunts me to return!  It is a destination vacation that your entire family will enjoy and remember forever!  You park your car, rent a golf cart and let the world go by!  Dreams are made here and memories will never be forgotten.

Here is the way to enjoy this great little island.  First, stop at the Gulf Kart Company (across from City Hall) after checking in to your condo, hotel or house. Ask for George Oakley and rent one of his many Karts!  You will not need a car the entire time you are on the Island!  Rates for the Kart runs for two people from $22 for two hours up to $52 for a full day!  Best way to travel and enjoy everything and parking is not a problem.  Who knows he might offer a gin and tonic!  Phone 352-543-5090

Next, stop by the Chamber of Commerce and visit with Kellie Parkin, the head of the Chamber.  She has all the answers to your questions and brochures too!  Phone 352-543-5600 www.cedarkey.org

Now head out to the airport which is about 10 minutes away and speak to Marvin Franks and fly over the Islands and enjoy the view. This is the best attraction in Cedar Key and well worth the money.  $25 per person or $35 single.  Fantastic! Phone 352-477-0105

If you plan to have lunch the best place to enjoy something light and meet two of the most delightful people you will ever know, go to Kona Joe’s Island Café for the famous "chicken salad sandwich."  Joe and Edie claim it to be the best in Florida and I agree!  You can sit out on the porch and enjoy to canal view.

Now take a moment to visit the wonderful museum, The Cedar Key Historical Museum and the Andrew House.  This really offers you a complete and clear picture of the years gone by, the industries of the past and the people that made the history of Cedar Key.  Absolutely worth your time!  Phone 800-686-6520

Give yourself about an hour or so to shop the quaint shops along the main street.  My favorite was Cedar Key’s Emporium where you can find many exciting accessories, gifts, jewelry and handbags.  You must meet Grace Register and see her new addition to the shop, the Garden area.  Grace is so pleasant and delightful to know.  I brought home a few items and you will too.  Phone 352-543-5353.

Spend the rest of the afternoon just riding around the island and enjoy some of the beautiful homes in the area.  There is water everywhere and some of the most beautiful photo opportunities you will ever find.  This is truly Summer in a Summer Place!  You will think of it frequently and want to return over and over.

Of course there are fine restaurants and a lot more of excitement for me to share.  But, because of space, it will have to wait until next time when I tell you about the great place to stay with beautiful furnished condo apartments at reasonable prices. I will tell you about places to eat including Tony’s Restaurant for the best "seafood chowder" in the Country as voted and placed into the Hall of Fame from the Rhode Island Famous Chowder Competition.  There is so much more so don’t miss the continued story next time.

There is no need to drive all the way to Key West when you can have so much more fun in Cedar Key.  Until then, visit www.worldtravelbyglenn.com
