VICTOR, COLORADO, AMERICA REDISCOVERED!
By Glenn Arnette, lll
It all started with a computer search of some place unusual and not on the beaten path of traditional travels. Knowing that I was already planning to be in Colorado, I found on line a little place called Victor, Colorado on Craig’s List under Rentals. There Jim Smith, an architect from Denver, had posted a property that he had completely renovated with three apartments available. In contacting him, he suggested that I come out for a night and see his place and visit Victor, Colorado. After Denver, Frisco, Vail I headed through the Valley to a place called Cripple Creek and then 6 miles away, Victor. At first sight you might think this to be like a deserted town you would find in an old movie. Well, it is not! Jim’s place was very modern, larger than you would expect and the rental or ownership is right on target. The time is right to make your investment!
Victor is just about to burst! It is on the edge of becoming a residential and business community in the next few years. With Cripple Creek growing as one on the Gambling Capitals, Victor will become the place to live. What a wonderful opportunity for small businesses or in home computer opportunities and the price is right. The price of Main Street property right now is the best you will find anywhere in the United States. If you have a flair for the old and always wanted a piece of history, it would take less than $200,000 to have a place for dreams and a real future. This old mining GOLD town with active mines still operating has been a sleeping giant over the past 30 years, but with the excitement of many people including
Marilyn Fay of the Nana’s Attic Antiques, you have better make your move to find out more about this town right now. She is like the walking Chamber of Commerce and a fantastic Ambassador for the community. The wonderful woman could be a President of the United States, or is that already being thought about? By-the-way she has invested with a home, a few lots, and her wonderful antique store and knows “times are changing”!
Jim Roberts is in the business of Real Estate and his dreams are already in motion for Victor. After talking with him for about an hour, I could see the total picture including a trolley car running through the street again like in the old days. He is the man to talk to about leasing or buying anything on the Main Street.
There are three places I found absolutely fascinating. The first was my meeting Joyce at the Aspen Country Cottage. It is something beyond your imagination. There is a grocery area up front, a movie rental area and a restaurant in the back. I loved it! My food was as good as the Ritz Carlton and more fun.
The most famous place is town is the Fortune Club, a morning hang out for politics and the news about “what’s going on in the town”. It is certainly the place to be seen! The coffee is the best and the Burrito for breakfast is enough for two or three people. The people were so interesting and there is much history surrounding the building. Owned and operated by Buck Hakes and his cousin, Sue Kochevar, this establishment is certainly one not to miss. With Ken Ulrey as the main “cook”, you time there will be well spent. He is the man! While having breakfast or lunch, be on the lookout for my personal friend, “Worm.” He is going to “star” this Summer when he models at Victor Celebrates the Arts. He also paints with his beard! For additional information regarding the Art Festival, check the website www.victorcelebratesthearts.com. So visit the “boys” and belly up to the old fashioned ice cream bar and the Fortune Club! By-the-way, Buck Hakes has the Liquor Store too!
Finally, don’t forget to take home a broom or something printed on the antique printing press. The Victor Trading Company and Manufacturing Works is already famous the world over through the discovery by Martha Stewart. She thinks the brooms are the best anywhere and she is never wrong! For Prices and information, visit their website at www.VictorTradingCo.com or email them at Mail@VictorTradingCo.com. You can call with your questions 710-689-2346. They ship everywhere!
They say the “streets are paved in Gold” in Victor, Colorado and that might just be the case again as it was many years ago. Located 10,000 feet and overlooking Pikes Peak, this town has character and charm. There is the Gold Coin Club, Masonic Temple, Baptist Church, St. Victor’s Church, the Victor Community Center and the City Hall just to mention a few stops along the way of the walking tour. Remember Lowell Thomas, the famous radio personality? His museum is located right in the heart of town. Why there is the beautiful and historic Victor Hotel with a special room dedicated to a ghost, if you dare to believe. They also serve delicious meals.
From the modern day soccer camp to the old mining shafts you will never have a dull moment while you visit Victor. However, remember what I said. “This is a place to invest now!” It is a town waiting for “dreams”! It haunts me daily. www.victorcolorado.com
